Please arrive on time for your appointment. We try very hard to remain
on schedule throughout the day – this is NOT your typical doctor’s
office wait!!
After parking outside the clinic (for free), enter the front door of
the building and we are the first unit on the left. Introduce yourself
to Brian, our office manager. As soon as possible, he will be with
you and your information will be confirmed and completed (including your
Health Insurance –OHIP, number, so be sure to have your card with
you). He will accept payments then as well. You will be given a numbing
patch, athletic support and a mild tranquilizer (if you choose to take
that medication remember that we want you to have a driver with you).
Brian will instruct you about what to do with those and show you to a
washroom to use them. If your partner is with you, she will wait for
you in the office. When you have returned to the office, Brian will give
you the remainder of the supplies that we provide – these are for
post-op care at home. He will then ensure that you understand instructions
concerning both post-op care and the laboratory semen analysis that occurs
after ten weeks and will give you written material to take home. You
will be asked to return to the waiting room while the numbing patch does
its work and Brian will then escort you to the procedure room where you
will meet Dr. Cragg who will perform the vasectomy. You will be with
Dr. Cragg for about 30 minutes. Your total time with us from beginning
to end will be about 70 minutes.
If you are driving home on your own (which, of course, means you did
not take the tranquilizer) it is recommended that you wait 20 to 30 minutes
to ensure that you do not have any reaction to the procedure. There are
several coffee shops nearby where you can spend time if you wish before
driving.
